Nutrients Depleted by Birth Control
So you come off the birth control pill excited to start trying to conceive and realize getting pregnant is much harder than you thought or perhaps you come off the pill with no intention of conceiving but rather because you felt like absolute garbage on the pill and it has carried on well after stopping.
As discussed in my previous post your digestion may not be feeling too hot due to the pill but now you are experiencing a bunch of unexplainable symptoms. This my friends is your bodies cry for nourishment! The pill may have just stripped your body of vital minerals and nutrients such as magnesium, zinc, B6, B12, Vitamins C & E, selenium, and folate.
Let’s take a look at some of the reasons these minerals and vitamins are so important when it comes to women’s health.
✖️Magnesium is required for proper use of iron and calcium, it is essential for thyroid function, relaxes the nervous system and helps us detoxify heavy metals.
✖️Zinc is essential for digestive health, hair and skin health, fertility and immune function.
✖️B Vitamins support liver detoxification and the brain and nervous system.
✖️Vitamins C & E are two antioxidants that protect our cells from cancer, protect our adrenals glands and prevent autoimmune disease. Birth control promotes inflammation and oxidative stress and unfortunately depletes us of these two amazing antioxidants when we need it most.
✖️Selenium is essential for detoxification as it is a precursor to glutathione. If your are deficient you could have difficult periods, a hard time ovulating and your thyroid will suffer.
✖️Folate is absolutely necessary for a healthy pregnancy and baby. It is needed for brain and fetal development and is also an antioxidant that protects our body from damage and cancer.
And what happens when these minerals and vitamins are depleted? Not only do we start to see a slew of symptoms because our bodies are not functioning optimally but it knocks all the other minerals out of balance. This can lead to hormonal imbalances, thyroid issues, digestive distress, and autoimmune conditions.
We need these vitamins and minerals not only for our well-being and to live life to our fullest but also for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Remember minerals are the spark plugs of life, without them you will feel downright awful.I know. I know. Now you’re thinking, GREAT, I must be vitamin and mineral deficient, what the heck do I do about it?
Don’t worry, I got you girlfriend.
Whether you need to stay on the pill, want to go off, have been off for awhile or looking to conceive we gotta get those minerals checked! This is where we start.
I think by now we all know the importance of that Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis Test I rave about. One of the best times to get a test done would be post birth control and while you are trying to conceive. We have to remember what’s going on in mom’s body during pregnancy will be carried down to baby.
Let’s flood that bod full of nutrients and get you feeing vibrant, energized and full of life again!
