weightloss

The 6 most common weight loss myths being sold to women

Unfortunately we live in a world where we need to be told what to eat, how much to eat, and how to live to be healthy.

Should we need to track our food and jump from diet to diet just to maintain health and weight?

No.

If we had stuck to eating the way nature intended from the beginning and didn’t rely on “science” to make our food for us or tell us how to eat we wouldn’t be where we are today.

90’s kids, you get it.

Imagine how different our health would be?

I also wonder how different things would be if we only came in contact with 50 people in our entire lives like our elders. How different would we feel mentally and physically.

No comparison.

When you actually get off the phone and go out IRL, you can have 10 women in a room and every single one of them has a completely different body shape, not one body is the same but social media makes you think differently.

We live in a world of quick fixes.

We see people doing extreme diets and cleanses and dropping 20lbs in a month online.

We see people that are genetically blessed with thin bodies claiming it’s their lifestyle, supplements and diet that did it to sell you something.

Something we don’t usually see tho, the repercussions of these diets. Trust me, anyone that has been on a diet knows you pay for it later.

Keep in mind. None of these diets have been studied in cycling women due to our unique physiology.

Hormones are designed for survival of the species and therefore our bodies require a certain percentage of body fat for reproduction, fat is safety and for most women to function optimally we need 35% body fat. I know, hard pill to swallow.

A couple of the biggest mistakes I see when people go on a fat loss journey is one doing an extreme diet rather than something sustainable and two not being a metabolically supportive place to do so. You need to earn your right to lose fat.

How are your metabolic markers?

Fat loss requires stress resiliency. A body under stress will fight fat loss.

Your body knows best and I can assure its not jonesing to go on another diet.

The only way through is with nourishment and a sustainable weight loss strategy.

Diet Mindset v. Nourished Mindset

What’s the fastest way to burnout? OBSESSING about food, your health and your body.

I had a conversation with a friend over the weekend and we were discussing how the biggest downfall to everyones health starts with a stressor. We asked each other when shit hit the fan and we both had the same realization.

It started when we became obsessed with our bodies, the food we ate and put constant pressure on ourselves to look a certain way. This is a theme that pops up with almost every single one of my clients.

Girls going on atkins, low carb or becoming vegan at the age of 9! Please, if your daughter is doing this, it’s a HUGE red flag.

One day you are just sitting by the pool, eating a hot dog and freeze pop happy as a fucking clam and the next you are analyzing every imperfection in your body and trying to find every way to “fix” it.

The healthiest people are the ones that have never dieted or had poor thoughts and feelings around their body and the food they eat.

Dieting and negative thoughts around food and your body are on the TOP of the stress scale.

Why? Because every single day you are bombarded with fake social media bodies and people judging you or telling you you should look, how to eat and what not to eat for “health.”

You are constantly thinking about food and your body from the time you wake up until you go to bed.

My life’s mission and why I created this page and my business is to help you understand your body better and see through the bullshit you are being fed.

If you were to die tomorrow what would you see? Certainly not all the times you obsessed about the way your body looks or the food you ate or all the fun you missed out on due to it.

I see my husbands smile, all the amazing adventures I have been on, my cat laying in the sunshine, all the incredible memories I have made and the thousands of women I have helped. Not that time I starved myself for the sake of loosing 20 pounds.

It’s one thing to want to want to live a healthy confident life, it’s a whole different story to be destroying your body and giving up joy for external validation.

What age were you when you first started having negative thoughts about your body and food?

10 Things I wish women knew about their bodies

I remember when I first started learning about women’s health, nutrition and physiology in an effort to heal myself, I was so utterly and completely fascinated with everything I was learning, clearly this is one of the reasons I do what I do today.
Can you believe we were taught how to make stuffed animals in home ec class or how to play parachute in gym class but never once were taught about our bodies or how to nourish them appropriately?

We shoved chicken nuggets and french fries down our throats at lunch time of if you were feeling healthy you would get the garden salad dripping with PUFA oil. Maybe even a dessert from the vending machine.

We had an hour of sex education that simply was a video showing us how to use some scented toxic tampon or pad.

We were taught nothing about our bodies.

The very vessels we need in order to do life and live deeply and fully. The very things that create life if given the right environment to do so.

Sadly, we were never given the right environment or health education to thrive.

Don’t rely on anyone for your health – the government, the doctors, that pill.

Nobody is going to save you but yourself. Knowledge is power.

Learn everything, never stop learning and be curious.

Only you can heal yourself.

95% of women that go on a diet gain back all the weight they lost & then some

I remember that feeling, that high I got when I started seeing changes in my body and the scale. I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. I wanted everyone to know about the diet I was on and how good I felt. Until I didn’t. I remember throwing away all the bigger clothes I had telling myself there is no way i’l ever be that size again!

This is my story, but after years of working with women we all have the same story. The conclusion is- diets don’t work.

You see. Dieting feels really good for awhile, years even. Dieting triggers the chronic release of cortisol. Running on stress hormones gives you a great high. But you eventually come crashing down. You simply can’t fathom your “healthy” diet could be the cause!

This includes all diets from carnivore to vegan to the MLM “mom coaches” and everything in between.

Every diet has the same method; restricting calories, food groups or macros. In response to this our bodies slow our metabolisms to hang on to nutrients to keep us alive.

When you restrict your metabolism slows. Sure you may lose weight but at the expense of muscle then when you eat normal again (because you will) you will gain most of your weight back in fat.

What happens overtime as our metabolisms get slower we start noticing the impact it has on our digestion, hormones, skin, hair, moods, etc. In order to feel well we need to have a robust metabolism. Your metabolism has nothing to do with weight.

You have a set point and that weight will change throughout your life. Your body is always adapting and changing. Your set point at 25 is different from your set point at 35 because girl, you have grown and lived a full decade! Shocking I know.

Whenever your weight changes too much, your brain will intervene to push it back to the correct weight for you. You might not prefer the same weight your brain prefers.

The healthiest women inside and out are the ones that have zero dieting history.

If diets worked there wouldn’t be so many. Think twice!

Instead focus on the foundations. Eat real, nourishing food, move, balance your blood sugar, be consistent, enjoy life and if needed work with someone to help you figure out imbalances in your body.

The Harsh Truth: Nobody actually gives a shit about you because they are too damn worried about themself.

Stop letting the fear of what other people think about you determine your life.

I know. You are thinking what the heck does this have to do with nutrition.

Well everything.

A lot of the reason we as women are so sick is because we have lived our lives caring so much about what others think.

All of the diets we have been on. All our poor nutrition choices. It all comes down to how we look. We see someone on social media that appears to have it all with a “great” body so they must be doing it right.

We have been sold that certain diets will promise us great skin, beautiful hair and thin figures for centuries.

I mean hell, in the 1920’s we were told the cigarette diet was the way to go and there were no repercussions.

Just like any diet nowadays, we are only told all the good, we are promised we will be thin goddesses with glowing skin, tons of energy and it will fix all our problems in life and we will live forever!

Because being thin will make you happy right? Being thin does not fix your health problems, your stress levels, your toxic relationships, honestly it fixes nothing about your life or your health.

And truthfully, ALL diets, this desire to be thin and look a certain way out of fear of what other people will think is destroying our hormones, guts and metabolism. If diets worked there wouldn’t be so many.

You are too afraid to go out with friends or see family because you put on a few pounds or you have some acne on your chin or maybe your hair and skin is not up to your standards.

Whatever insecurity you are struggling with. I can guarantee whoever you are with has just as many or more insecurities (even if they won’t admit it).

Stop letting the fear and anxiety of what other people think determine your life and stomp your joy, because truly, they don’t give a shit about you and once you fully understand this, it’s so freeing.

Be honest with yourself, is everything you are doing out of fear of what others think? Or are you truly doing it for your own joy and happiness. This includes the diet that you keep, the decisions you make around money + relationships, and where you put your energy.

The less fucks you give the more you will truly live.
