minerals

What is your external appearance saying about your internal health?

Vibrancy is a sign of health.

One of the number one things you will start to notice as your internal environment starts to function better and you are fully nourishing yourself is your appearance starts to follow suit, you look healthier, more vibrant, younger and ALIVE.

It all comes down to energy.

Energy from minerals, carbs, protein and fat. We do not discriminate.

You can not expect your body to have enough energy to make you look good, let alone feel good if you are expecting to run off air.

Plump lips, nice skin tone, bright eyes, long full hair… These are nice-to-haves.

If your body is fighting to keep itself alive and its internal environment is struggling you bet it couldn’t give 2 shits about what you look like.

If you were properly nourishing yourself you wouldn’t be running to get the next botox, hair extensions, or fillers. Your body would provide.

This is why overtime, a dieting woman depriving herself of necessary nutrients looks like a dieting, deprived woman.

You are simply catering to your symptoms with restorative diets rather than fixing them.

A body that can ovulate and ovulate well.

A body that can eliminate excess estrogen without a hitch.

A body that can absorb and assimilate nutrients.

A body that can utilize glucose well.

A body that is less reactive and can handle stressors…

Are all signs of good health and your appearance will follow suit.

What is one thing you noticed has become more vibrant since you started nourishing yourself and not depriving yourself?

We are a generation deprived of nourishment

Since birth we have been fighting our bodies.

We have been dieting and restricting, some of us as early as middle school.

I remember my first time thinking I needed to change my body so I started skipping breakfast and lunch and then binging on processed garbage when I got home from school.

We all have our stories and traumatic experiences we have gone through and our nervous system still gets activated thinking about it years later no matter how much work you have done.

Most of us grew on some form of birth control because we thought that was just what you did.

We simply can’t avoid all the heavy metals we are exposed to on the daily. Our world is toxic.

Most of us have experimented with some form of trendy dieting that we screamed from the roof tops and would have fought to our death that it was healthy that in reality left us depleted and our metabolisms trashed.

We have all experimented with supplements thinking they would cure us of all our ailments cuz Karen said so on Instagram.

Every single one of us is struggling with poor digestive function in some capacity due to the above. Mark my words.

This is all stress.

Stress requires more energy and nutrients to keep our bodies thriving and symptom free.

Our bodies have taken huge hits over the years and we are being told by random experts to eat less and restrict or eliminate foods for todays beauty standards or to “heal.”

It’s coming at us from all angles. But you have the freedom to choose nourishment.

Take a little extra care of yourself, it’s a wild world out there!

Red flags indicating your digestion is out of wack (that are not typical digestive symptoms)

“Laura, my digestion is totally fine!”

As their DUTCH test comes back with high estrogen, high cortisol and terrible detox pathways.

Their blood labs are indicating parasites and inflammation.

Their HTMA is not improving despite a rigorous personalized mineral balancing protocol and proper diet.

Most women in denial end up finding the most relief once they start focusing on gut health.

They start to absorb nutrients and minerals better, their periods and moods get better, their metabolic makers improve, they feel more clear headed and have more energy.

Repeat after me:

Most symptoms are a reflection of poor gut health even if your digestion seems “totally fine.”

Everything comes back to your gut.

BUT

Everything is connected.

Your metabolism runs the show for digestion but poor digestion can slow your metabolism.

Minerals are needed to support all the digestive processes but poor digestion can inhibit mineral absorption.

Poor digestion is seen as a stressor to the body and impacts your adrenals but chronic stress impacts your adrenals which impacts your digestion.

Your mineral status and digestion impact your mood and anxiety but anxiety and low moods can inhibit the absorption of minerals that impacts your digestion.

I know. Your head is spinning.

Bottom line. Your gut is only as healthy as the nourishment you are giving it.

I tend to see ‘gut experts’ recommending super restrictive diets, having people eliminate red meat and dairy because they are “inflammatory” and replace with things like beans and tofu, switch to gluten free alternatives like chickpea pasta, have you load your body with fiber, drink more plain water, all the nuts and seeds and raw vegetables, switch to nut milks and dairy free alternatives, take probiotics…This is a recipe for a digestive disaster.

Eliminating a bunch of nutrient-dense foods that we have been consuming since the dawn of time is unnecessary and won’t solve your problems and you will likely end up in a worse place than where you began.

Once you realize this and stop going down rabbit holes of what to eliminate next for xyz symptom suppression you will gain so much more freedom and clarity.

Things you don’t have to do to balance your hormones vs. Things you should do to balance your hormones

If I had a dollar for every woman that has told me these silly stories I would be one rich bitch.

“I was told to eliminate dairy and sugar for my PCOS because they are inflammatory”

“I was told to go low carb because I have insulin resistance”

“I was told to seed cycle to balance my hormones”

“I was told to take – insert supplement- to help with estrogen dominance, PMS and progesterone production”

“I was told I need to start eating more cruciferous vegetables to help with detox”

“I was told to eliminate animal foods and saturated fat because they are loaded with hormones and mucus”

“I was told to take fish oil because it will help with my acne and is anti-inflammatory”

What should you be asking?

“OKAY, BUT WHY?”

Crickets….

Or 9x out of 10 they will throw some bogus study at you to validate their claims that was done on rats, mice, men, or a very tiny group of participants and think it’s now the holy grail of advice without doing their own research and having client experience (the most important learning of all).

If someone gives you these blanket statements without being able to explain why or they fail to recognize the basic physiology and biology of women then RUN.

If they fail to mention:

The impact of cruciferous vegetables on your thyroid.

The long term consequences of eliminating carbs/ sugar and what happens to your body when you do. Hello stress hormones!

How nuts/seeds and fish oils are PUFAs, estrogenic and how they can contribute to toxin load and go rancid in the body.

The nutrients you miss out on by eliminate animal proteins and saturated fats.

How taking a hormone balancing supplement or birth control is not getting the root of your hormone balance.

Before you go following these recommendations and going down rabbit holes…

It’s all about the foundations baby!

+ Blood sugar
+ Minerals
+ Digestion
+ Liver, bile and detox
+ Stress
+ Sleep

It can be that simple.

Our body is a beautiful machine where everything is connected and intertwines.

Never look at hormones and symptoms in isolation or you will likely end up in a hole.

What you think you have vs. What is actually going on

Skipping meals.

Forgetting to eat because you are too “busy.”

Waiting too long to eat.

Using substances during the day to cope with your mental health issues.

Girlfriend. Get yo’ shit together + eat.

You are riding the blood sugar rollercoaster all day but for some reason don’t expect your moods and mental health to ride along with you?

Stable moods require stable energy.

Waiting too long to eat, not combining foods appropriately or not eating enough sets off a stress response…ALERT! ALERT! I’M IN A FAMINE! HELP!

Your body literally panics.

What does this look like?

Blood sugar drops > Cortisol rises > If not given the food it needs your body goes through a stressful process of tapping into protein stores to turn them into glucose (a survival mechanism) > the more this happens your body ends up in chronic fight or flight mode continuously pumping out stress hormones

This then depletes your body of minerals. The very minerals we need for good mental health.

Your digestion then suffers due to not getting the energy it needs to break down food well.

Your hormones are trashed due to lack of nutrients, minerals and a compromised liver/ gut.

Your thyroid and metabolism suffer because your liver is too busy trying to make glucose out of other resources (and air) rather than converting thyroid hormones.

Your mental health then goes down the toilet.

Ways to balance your blood sugar:

+ Eat before you get hungry
+ Always combine carb, protein and fat
+ Eat every 3 hours, for some this might be every 2
+ Eat upon waking
+ Move your body often throughout the day
+ Caffeine after a meal always!
+ Limit alcohol
+ Get your minerals, gut and hormones checked!
+ Eat food that actually nourishes you, not what diet culture tells you to eat

Anxious or depressed? Eat more + often.
ADHD and PMS? Eat more + often.
Moody? Eat more + often.
Stressed? Eat more + often.

There are MANY layers to mental health and this is just one that is so often overlooked.

Don’t suppress with alcohol, psychedelics, CBD, or whatever other substance you are using to cope. It will come back ten fold in other ways. Your body is speaking to you, listen.

Not medical advice. Nutrition POV.
