estrogendominance

What is your external appearance saying about your internal health?

Vibrancy is a sign of health.

One of the number one things you will start to notice as your internal environment starts to function better and you are fully nourishing yourself is your appearance starts to follow suit, you look healthier, more vibrant, younger and ALIVE.

It all comes down to energy.

Energy from minerals, carbs, protein and fat. We do not discriminate.

You can not expect your body to have enough energy to make you look good, let alone feel good if you are expecting to run off air.

Plump lips, nice skin tone, bright eyes, long full hair… These are nice-to-haves.

If your body is fighting to keep itself alive and its internal environment is struggling you bet it couldn’t give 2 shits about what you look like.

If you were properly nourishing yourself you wouldn’t be running to get the next botox, hair extensions, or fillers. Your body would provide.

This is why overtime, a dieting woman depriving herself of necessary nutrients looks like a dieting, deprived woman.

You are simply catering to your symptoms with restorative diets rather than fixing them.

A body that can ovulate and ovulate well.

A body that can eliminate excess estrogen without a hitch.

A body that can absorb and assimilate nutrients.

A body that can utilize glucose well.

A body that is less reactive and can handle stressors…

Are all signs of good health and your appearance will follow suit.

What is one thing you noticed has become more vibrant since you started nourishing yourself and not depriving yourself?

The majority of women ages 16-65 are unknowingly struggling with estrogen dominance

How many times have you said “It must be hormonal.” Ehhh likely not.

Like I always say. Your hormonal issues are not actually hormonal.

Hormones are downstream, you never ever address hormones first. And if someone recommends aggressive supplements like DIM without considering your lifestyle, digestion, thyroid, cortisol and minerals RUN!

I am seeing younger and younger woman suffering with estrogen dominance symptoms. Girls as early as 9 starting their periods and women going through menopause at 40. Most children being born estrogenic from birth.

Women suffering with painful, heavy periods, cysts, fibroids, sore breasts, migraines, headaches, PMS, anxiety, depression, mood swings, weight gain, bloating and low libido. Breast cancer is at an all time high.

We live in a highly estrogenic world and it’s only getting worse. Our environment is flooded, our food supply and water is no longer safe, all our personal care and cleaning products are bombarded. We are now injecting and putting toxic substances in our bodies all for some made up beauty standard or cultural norm. All at the sake of our health and thyroids.

We are working jobs we hate and spending days under fluorescent and blue light screens rather than outdoors.

We are all so stressed out that we can’t even make dinner for ourselves or think about all the other things that might be impacting our health. Looking for quick fixes.

We are transitioning to eating fake man-made foods, most of us consuming them our whole lives through processed garbage. None of this works with our physiology and is impacting our digestion, minerals and health.

Our lifestyles and diets are trash. We are no longer living true to ourselves and being bombarded with conveniences that are harming us.

And we are experiencing green washing at an all time high. Companies are allowed to call things organic, safe, or clean when they are far from. No regulations.

Some of these things we simply can’t change but you can certainly start supporting your body nutritionally to become more resilient. Get back to nature, eat real food, avoid the cultural norms “they” have created. It doesn’t have to be this way.

6 foods I incorporate daily to support my hormones now that I understand my unique female physiology

I dont know who needs to hear this today but you can be the girl slaying the raw milk, raw carrot salads, boiled mushrooms, sipping bone broth, adrenal cocktails, and organ meats even if your family and friends think you are absolutely insane.

They likely got a little lost and caught up in diet culture drinking their nut milks, demonizing orange juice and sugar, limiting salt, and going more plant-based while the thought of eating red meat is a no go, let alone adding in organ meats and eating nose to tail.

Sugar free, gluten free, dairy free, free, free, free….

I dunno about you but I prefer FREEdom while understanding how my body works and what foods are most superior giving me the most bang for my buck.

When it comes to supporting your female physiology it all comes down to nourishment and bringing down stress in the body with minerals and nutrients. The more stress on your plate the more minerals and nutrients you deplete.

Unfortunately, we live in an overly stressed world, consumed by diet culture and quick fixes. We have been depriving ourselves of true nourishment for far too long, for some of us since birth and our hormones are taking a massive hit.

I remember in high school reading poetry by Sylvia Plath and she wrote about drinking bone broth to heal her menstrual cramps. I remember being 16 and thinking how strange is that just take midol 😂 I also have no idea why this has stuck with me all these years but she was on to something and intuitively listened to her body. Something we are so far removed from.

We need to forget everything we have been told and get back to nature with the food that we eat and the lifestyles that we keep to support our body in this modern day stressful, estrogenic shit show.

Keep in mind, you do not need to be having symptoms or hormonal issues to support your body and focus on nourishment. Listen to your body now before it screams.

Estrogen In Balance vs. Estrogen In Excess

Listen up, estrogen is not a dirty word. Altho it tends to get a bad rep, it is actually necessary + wonderful.

But when out of balance she can be a real bitch.

Causing bloating, heavy/ irregular periods, PMS, breast tenderness, acne, mood swings, endometriosis, PCOS, weight gain, allergies/asthma, blood sugar swings, depression/anxiety, dry skin, infertility, fatigue, breast + uterine cancer, water retention, fibroids, cysts, hypothyroidism, + GI Issues.

Girl, is this you? 👀

Estrogen must be in a balance with progesterone. This balance can get disturbed by stress, exposure to environmental toxins, poor diet, birth control, poor sleep, poor digestion + elimination of excess hormones.

Estrogen accumulates in two ways.

Endogenously: making too much + not able to eliminate appropriately.

Exogenously: from food + your enviornment.

You’re thinking “Laura, what the F do I do about it?”

First address where this estrogen is coming from + why it is not being eliminated.

+ Stress is #1, excess stress depletes progesterone production to make more cortisol.

+ Dysbiosis: more bad bacteria in the gut can cause estrogen to re-circulate back into your blood stream.

+ Low stomach acid will prevent you from assimilating minerals and nutrients that are needed to detox excess estrogen appropriatly. You need energy to actually produce + eliminate hormones.

+ Gallbladder probs? Bile is needed to escort estrogen out of the body.

+ The liver is responsible in the removal of excess hormones and like 300 other functions in the body. Give your liver some love with all the nutrients it needs to do it’s job.

+ Do yourself a favor + drop all that toxic shit mimicking estrogen in your life #nontoxicselfcare

+ Are you over-consuming alcohol? Are you sleep deprived? Are you stressed the F out?

It is rare to find a woman deficient in estrogen. Estrogen is stored in the fat tissues. You may have all the symptoms of estrogen dominance but your labs come back “normal.” This is why working with someone to do detective work is key.

With proper nourishment, good gut health + lifestyle changes YOU CAN overcome this dirty side of estrogen.

What You Should Consider Before Taking Progesterone

Have you been sold on using progesterone oil or cream by an influencer on social media or essential oil consultant? I’m sure it sounds appealing because progesterone is an amazing hormone. But, it is a HORMONE! We should not just be taking hormones willy nilly without working with a legit practitioner.

Sorry to break it to ya but most of these consultants are not educated in women’s health + nutrition. (not dissing consultants by any means) That’s why I am here! To help you understand your body better so you can make an empowered decision to use these products.

So as your consultant would say “ladies, we all need this”- Yup, she’s correct we all need to be making progesterone, key word MAKING progesterone, not putting creams + oils on our body when unnecessary.

However in some cases, taking progesterone can be beneficial but there are things to consider before doing so.

If you are unfamiliar with progesterone it is needed for pregnancy but is also pro-thyroid, anti-stress, anti-aging, promotes restful sleep, and helps with anxiety/ depression.

Sounds amazing right? Well thank god our body naturally makes it!

What would cause low progesterone? A stressed out, nutrient depleted, poor functioning, estrogen/ toxin ridden body.

These are what need to be addressed before jumping into progesterone oils + creams otherwise you are just putting a bandaid on the symptoms or in some cases just adding fuel to the fire.

Other things to consider:

Progesterone can turn into estrogen if over-used/not in the right dosage. Hello estrogen dominance!

Progesterone is a pre-cursor to estrogen, testosterone and cortisol so it will affect these hormones.

Not all progesterone is created equal. Creams + oils that go on the skin are hard to gauge dosing + can easily be over-done. It really depends on what your skin feels like absorbing that day. Another thing to keep in mind- what goes on your skin can rub off onto your husband + kids giving them hormonal probs. 😳

A cycling female should not be taking progesterone all cycle long but only from ovulation until menstruation.

Progesterone speeds up your metabolism + warms you up, great right? But if you are not ready for it you can actually feel worse + not better.

Basically if your body is still stressed out and your are still exposing your body to excess estrogens your progesterone will never get in check.

So the next time you are tempted to hop on the progesterone train, I hope you take this into consideration. Your best bet would be to get tested (urine or saliva, blood work is a waste of money) + address why you might be low in progesterone in the first place before jumping on board.
