DIGESTION: The missing piece to your hormone healing journey

The number one biggest thing I hear women say when they are struggling with their health is “it’s just hormonal.”

I hate to break it to ya but it’s never JUST hormonal and taking some random hormone balancing supplement, getting unnecessary surgeries, hormone replacement therapy, birth control or fancy cream/powder is not going to get to the root of your issues.

You see. Your digestion and hormones have a very intimate connection. I am not just talking sex hormones but every hormone in your body especially your thyroid and stress hormones will also be severely impacted by poor digestion.

And here’s the deal we ALL have wrecked digestive systems.

Due to most of us growing up never learning how or what to eat and consuming an abundance of processed packaged garbage, poor quality fats, antibiotics or medications, being overloaded in estrogen and iron laden foods, and toxins. Add in all the stress, trauma, under-eating and diets we have endured throughout our lives from childhood to adulthood.

And then switching to a “healthier” lifestyle filled with plant-based man-made foods, raw salads and vegetables, loads of nuts and seeds and PUFAs we are now seeing our digestive systems in even worse places.

We have never gotten the nutrients, minerals, quality fat, carbs and protein we need to thrive.

When it comes to hormone health its all about energy and bringing down as much stress as possible in your system. Where do we get that from? The minerals and nutrients from the food we consume and a well functioning digestive system that is not under stress and has the ability to absorb nutrients and deliver.

We need to be addressing the body as a whole. You may not think you have digestive issues but they are likely expressing as what you would say is “just hormonal.”

Cycle syncing for hormone balance

You walk into your holistic doc or nutritionists office and you tell them about all the hormonal symptoms you are experiencing. They recommend seed cycling.

You are ecstatic thinking OMG this is the answer to all my prayers and I only have to eat a tablespoon of “healthy” seeds everyday!

Right? Wrong. A for effort tho!

Girlfriend let’s learn a bit about our bodies ok?

One of the biggest reasons we are riddled with symptoms is because we are going against our physiology as women.

To break it down real quick.

Women have a 28 day infradian rhythm and men have a 24 hour hormonal cycle that flows with their testosterone and cortisol levels. This 24 hour rhythm ironically enough flows perfectly with day to day life in America.

Ahh that american dream. Wake up, get to work, work hard all day for 8 hours, workout, come home, eat dinner, go to sleep and do it all over again.

In other words, the grind, this go-go-go lifestyle never took our hormones into consideration. As women we need to adjust our exercise, work, and social lives.

We think we “just can’t hang” and that there is something wrong with us for being so exhausted, moody and symptomatic.

We are not allowed to rest, we are not allowed to be tired, we are not allowed to take a day off.

We simply are not allowed to be a women. We are just these robotic creatures living in a man’s world.

Not to mention. Women are excluded from studies. YUP, all those studies on diets, pharmaceuticals, exercise, hormones, have been done on men because women are just too complicated with our 28 day cycles and hormones.

Our cyclical nature is never put into consideration and we simply can not live a happy, healthy life in a masculine energy driven world.

Once you start living in sync with your cycle, get back to nature and the way your physiology intended you will likely start noticing you feel less drained, have more energy overall, are able to finally lose weight, feel less stressed and happier, have more confidence, and feel more aligned with your work.

You Need to Truly Feel to Heal

Do you ever wonder why there are women out there that can drink a bottle of wine every night, smoke cigarettes, eat whatever they want and never exercise a day in their life but will live and thrive until they are hundred years old?

And you are over there drinking green drinks and kombucha at parties, eating a snack you brought rather than what they provide and taking 1,000 supplements, and ditching nights out with friends because your body is so sensitive/ reactive to everything and you tell yourself it’s for #health.

I dunno about you but I prefer the wine drinking thriving old woman than the cautious cathy.

You see the thoughts that we create about our health, our lives, our self-worth, and emotional baggage is really what is keeping us from health.

Emotional freedom is the real preventative medicine.

Every emotion creates a specific biochemical reality in our bodies. The more we tell ourselves something the more we believe it.

The belief then becomes part of our biology.

Psychological and emotional factors influence our physical health greatly because our emotions and thoughts are always accompanied by biochemical reactions in our bodies. These reactions are mediated by cell membranes, which are the actual “brains” of each cell.

When we have unresolved emotional stress, this stress registers in our energy field as a disturbance that can manifest as physical illness.

Self destructive thoughts/ behaviors > divert energy away from the cells > vital cellular processes then become depleted > we then leak energy in which our anger, fear, depression, or sadness controls our lives and ability to move forward in our lives > creating illness and disease.

Unresolved emotions rob your body of energy needed to heal.

Your body is self-healing. You just have to believe it and trust it.

What You Think You Need To Detox Vs What You Actually Need To Detox

SLOW YOUR ROLL GIRLFRIEND.

Before someone tells you “oh girl you just need to detox” you tell them to hold their horses!

You have a whole lot more work that needs to be done before you stress out your body with some trendy cleanse or diet. I don’t give a fuck how many testimonials there are.

I see so many people with zero energy, in a super depleted state being advised to detox whether that is cleansing, supplementing, fasting or some special diet.

EXCUSE ME? Let’s really think about that. Do you really think some aggressive detox is going to be the answer to your prayers without addressing any foundational work?

I will tell you right now some single metal, parasite or toxin is not the root to all your symptoms.

The real question to ask is.

HOW DID IT GET IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Your undernourished, mineral depleted, stressed out body of course.

How can you possibly expect your body to take care of heavy metals, parasites, chemicals, toxins, or whatever else is in there when you are not giving it the energy it needs to do so?

Fasting and cleanses, depriving your body of vital nutrients and energy for the sake of detoxing? Give me a break!

You need energy, lots of energy for your body to be able to detox and heal in the first place.

Focus on building up your system not breaking it down.

Your body is intelligent and knows exactly how to heal and how to detox on it’s own as long as it has the nourishment it needs to do so. Forcing metals and toxins out of the body is unnatural and not necessary. Your body has it’s own order of healing. Trust it.

It always comes back to the foundations. Nourishment with a traditional diet, mineral balancing, blood sugar balancing, digestion, stress, sleep and toxin elimination from your environment.

In my opinion the only shit you need to be detoxing from is your toxic habits, toxic people, and toxic environment.

What Doctors Tell You About Hormone Balance Vs What You Should Actually Do

Period problems? PMS? PCOS? Endometriosis? Acne? Weight gain? Mood swings? Fatigue? Sore breasts? Night sweats? Low libido? Anxiety/ depression? Migraines?

Let’s just put you on birth control, spironolactone, and metformin (the basic bitch package for hormonal health).

Not into that? You head to a holistic doc.

You are told to take DIM, Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, eat high fiber, low carb and load up on the cruciferous vegetables. You are told to eliminate dairy, meat and saturated fat, watch the salt and eat more PUFA! Start seed cycling and let’s also start you on a HRT cream from a compound pharmacy, why not, it’s natural and bioidentical, no harm right?

WHAT DA?! 🤯Now we are talking about the alternative health basic bitch package.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, your hormonal issues are not hormonal at all.

Absolutely none of these recommendations gets to the root cause of your hormonal issues.

Seed cycling, nuts and seeds? Talk about a rancid, estrogenic, toxic, shit storm.
DIM and cruciferous vegetables let’s destroy our thyroid and metabolism while we are at it.

Low carb, high fiber? Why are carbs a problem in the first place and fiber? Gut irritation station.

More exercise? Let’s just add to that stress bucket that got you here in the first place.

Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C? Sure let’s just create more mineral imbalances.

HRT? Hormones work in balance with one another and can work against each other.

So what to actually do?

Eat a traditional diet that supports your physiology. This includes eating seasonal – root vegetables and tubers, fruit, honey, grass-fed/ pasture-raised meats (nose to tail), eggs, dairy and wild caught fish.

Address mineral and nutrient imbalances.

You will never heal hormones without addressing digestion and detox. I don’t care if you have zero digestive issues.

Balance your blood sugar, the #1 thing you can do. Eat every 3-4 hours. Combine carb, protein and fat.

You can be doing all of the above but if you hate your life, sleep like shit, have no joy, stressed out, over-exercising or under-eating you simply will not get your hormones in check.

Put in the work girlfriend, it will be worth it!
