15 signs you have gotten a little lost on your health journey

All the confusion and conflicting information on the internet these days can literally make a person go insane and quite honestly it’s just unnecessary drama.

NOBODY, LITERALLY NOBODY, KNOWS YOUR BODY BETTER THAN YOU!

Someone asked me the other day what I think about all the drama and conflicting info on the internet these days. My response “I don’t.” I simply do not care and neither should you.

I know my body.

I know what I am doing to help and empower women is life changing.

I know my truth.

I also know there is always a bigger picture to every instagram post and everything on the internet.

I know there are hidden agendas.

I also know damn well that if I had a daughter I would NEVER want her to be sucked into the confusion creating disordered eating habits and thinking they need to constantly change their body because mom does.

I would teach my daughter that health comes from nature and not an online forum or “alternative”, finding joy in the everyday and treating our bodies with respect.
Give yourself grace for getting a little lost on your journey. We have all been there and are just trying to do our best. Drown out the noise and trust your own instinct and body.

Starving Yourself Is Not The Answer

Are you using fasting to avoid your symptoms?

Let me ask. Why are you fasting? Or why have you thought about trying it?
.
In reality, fasting is just another diet and I hate to break it to ya but just like every other diet you have tried out there it doesn’t work and it certainly does not work long-term.
.
Here’s why. Your body can only handle stress for a certain amount of time before it burns the F out and unlike men who tend to be more resilient to stress we have a cycle every month and a reproductive system that is sensitive to stress. Starving yourself is stressful. Girl, you are not in a famine don’t make your body think you are!

There are usually 2 reasons people decide to fast: weight loss + digestive issues.
.
Weight is a symptom of something deeper going on, typically a poor/slow metabolism and guess what, fasting is anti-metabolic making our metabolism even slower. Sure, you can lose some weight when you start fasting initially because DUH when you cut calories, change up your diet, or cut out food groups your body will respond.
.
But what happens when you stop fasting? Let’s be real, like I said this is a diet and like all other diets it is not sustainable. Not only do most people regain all the weight they lost from fasting but they are most likely going to put on extra pounds because you just killed your metabolism and it’s slower than ever and now it doesn’t feel safe to lose weight. It no longer trusts you.

You decided to fast because your digestion is out of wack and you feel better when you don’t eat. Do you think starving yourself is the root cause to your digestive issues? I can assure you it’s not. And I can also assure you fasting will only wreck your digestion further because of your now even slower metabolism.

Fasting is like taking a pharmaceutical it is just masking your symptoms. High cholesterol? Water weight? Inflammation? Blood sugar issues? Why do you have those issues in the first place? Again, I can assure you the root cause is not because your body does not want food.

“But everyone is different.” Guess what we all have the same cells that require a steady stream of glucose to function, ALL DAY LONG.

Are Some of Your Symptoms Related to Your Anxiety Around Food?

“I can’t eat the dessert unless I go for a run”

“I earned this wine!”

“I eat ‘clean’ most of the time”

“Too many calories!”

“I’ll pass on the rice + potatoes, too many carbs! But I can have cauliflower!”

“I should really eat more vegetables”

“It’s the weekend, I can have a cheat meal”

“Good thing I am working out tomorrow to burn all this off”

You start learning more about nutrition + your thoughts turn into…

“God knows what oil that was cooked in, I can’t eat it!”

“I don’t trust that meat, who knows the quality and where it came from”

“I can’t eat the sugar, it’s so bad and will cause diabetes and insulin resistance”

No matter what end of the spectrum you are on, these thoughts are FUCKED. And quite honestly, It is hard being a woman.

It is so sad that diet culture + propaganda makes us feel so much guilt, shame, + confusion around food.

I remember living in Chicago 5 years ago + the only way I would allow myself to eat out at a restaurant was if I walked at least 3 miles there + back. I remember all the times I stayed home rather than going out with friends because I had anxiety around going out to dinner at an “unhealthy” restaurant. I remember only having a few restaurants to choose from because they had a “safe, healthy option” on the menu.

Whether you are eating to earn your food or being hyper aware of everything that goes in your mouth, it’s not the food that is unhealthy, it’s these thoughts that are. These thoughts are what causes stress, these thoughts are what causes physical symptoms from hormonal imbalances to digestive distress.

Deep healing only happens once we let go of these thought patterns and start enjoying food for what it is- fuel and energy so we can live our happiest most fulfilling lives. If you don’t have the energy + your stressed out about your food all the time you can’t truly expect to heal.

Once I found food freedom, became less obsessive about every damn thing I put in my mouth + started to understand my body better that is when I found true happiness in all aspects of my life + began to heal on a deeper level.
