You Can’t Get Pregnant Every Day of the Month

Que the infamous birth control commercial:

“It’s rare but pregnancy may occur and be life threatening and may cause infertility, bleeding and spotting may increase in the first 3-6 months and remain irregular, ovarian cysts may occur but usually disappear, periods overtime usually become lighter, shorter or stop, it may attach or go through the uterus, at first periods might become heavier, longer and spotting in between.”

SOUNDS GREAT, SIGN ME UP! 🙄

What if I told you that you that you can naturally and easily prevent pregnancy with ZERO side effects? Yup, you most certainly can. Its called Fertility Awareness Method and it is 99% effective if done correctly. That’s more effective than the pill and IUD!

I remember the day I was put on birth control and the doctor proceeded to tell me that I could get pregnant at any time during the month and I should go on birth control just incase. I knew nothing about my cycle I was fresh out of high school, they just simply do not teach you this stuff in grade school.

If only I knew I was going to pay the price with my health by making that uninformed decision.

If there is one thing us as women need to learn about, it’s our menstrual cycles. It is one of our vital signs after all.

Scroll down to learn more about tracking your cycle and preventing pregnancy naturally.

Animal Foods + Your Mood

Studies show that those who avoid consuming meat have significantly higher rates of depression + anxiety. People on a plant-based diet are twice more likely to take prescription drugs for mental illness than meat eaters.

Why is this?

ENERGY. If I was malnourished, riding the blood sugar roller coaster, restricting entire food groups and HANGRY my moods would tank too.

Animal proteins + fats provide your body satiation, energy, and nutrients your body needs to thrive.

Plant-based diets create vitamin and mineral deficiencies, stress, low stomach acid, disruptions in gut microbiome, low energy, low progesterone, and blood sugar imbalances.

Nutrients that impact mental health: amino acids, fatty acids, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, calcium, choline, vitamins A, D, C, E, K, b12, B6.

You simply can not get all these nutrients from a plant-based diet. Not to mention the lack of stomach acid you have created from the lack of animal protein preventing you from being able to even digest and assimilate your nutrients bringing you deeper into malnourishment.

You are working against your physiology as a human being. We have been consuming an abundance of animal foods since the dawn of time.

And for the ladies. You need these nutrients to ovulate and produce progesterone- you know the happiness, good mood, anti-anxiety hormone.

Anxious, depressed, angry, irritable, just downright moody? Ditch the plant-based proteins, go eat some red meat, butter, and dairy.

Also…

+ Pair protein, carb and fat at every meal. Carbs + sugar are just as important in keeping your blood sugar and moods stable but always pair with an animal protein. Fruit is a powerhouse!

+ Stop skipping meals and eat every 3-4 hours.

+ Remember when it comes to animal proteins quality matters – grass-fed, raw, pasture-raised is recommended. Be sure to add in a mix of amino acids with muscle meats – bone broths, collagen + gelatin.

Of course there are other factors to your shitty mood at play but I can assure you low protein and limiting animal foods is not the answer.

The answer to happiness? Stop restricting, stop following diet trends + stop demonizing food groups.

Could Your Sluggish Thyroid Be The Reason You Feel like Shit?

I know, I know. You checked the box for every single one of these yet you go to the doctor demanding your thyroid be checked just to have it come back normal every single time 🙄.

Here’s the deal. Blood labs don’t show the whole picture.

You’re probably wondering how all these symptoms can be related to your thyroid. Well girlfriend, your thyroid runs the metabolic show. When we talk about pro-metabolic eating, we are talking about supporting your thyroid, the main metabolic gland.

Your metabolism is the process that your body uses to transform food to energy that your body uses to function. The thyroid creates the hormones T4 and T3 to control your metabolism. These hormones work throughout the body to tell the body’s cells how much energy to use.

But guess what! YOU CAN HEAL YOUR THYROID THROUGH DIET AND LIFESTYLE.

I repeat. You can heal your thyroid through diet and lifestyle. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

First and foremost figure out what got you to this place. SWIPE RIGHT.

There are all types of thyroid issues and addressing patterns is key. It’s not just hypothyroidism. It’s detective work to figure out if its straight up hypothyroidism, an under-conversion pattern, cellular hypothyroidism, or a brain-based pattern.

What to do about it?

+ Make sure you get a full thyroid panel + have it interpreted by a functional doctor or nutritionist (like myself) to address findings and patterns

+ Markers to request:
Reverse T3
Thyroid Antibodies (Thyroglobulin Antibody + Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Antibody)
Thyroid-stimulating Hormone (TSH) Thyroxine (T4)
Thyroxine (T4), Free,
Direct Triiodothyronine (T3) Triiodothyronine (T3), Free

+ Get an HTMA. Thyroid issues will always show up on a cellular level before blood work and 9x out of 10 can be addressed with minerals + diet.

+ Check your basil body temperature. One of the easiest ways to understand your thyroid.

+ Remember everything is connected, it always comes back to your mineral status and gut health!

And most importantly, nourish those cells with an abundance of animal foods, fruits, dairy, and root veggies. And always address stress.

I Don’t Know Who Needs To Hear This But…

What are we doing… Really tho. What the F are we doing.

How many times have you felt guilty for having the white rice, the potatoes, or the bun?

I will never forget the time when I was deep into my orthorexia. I went to chipotle for lunch and they put white rice in my bowl instead of lettuce (I would have even felt “safer” with the brown rice). I was starving so I ate it, the guilt that ensued for the rest of the day was unbearable and because I had the white rice I knew I needed restrict at dinner to make up for it. At this time in my journey, the biggest thing to hit social media was that all white foods were evil including white rice and that brown rice was so much healthier for you. Bullshit.

Why are we so carb phobic that we now replace nutrient-dense carb sources with alternatives that are far less superior and anti-metabolic leading to mineral deficiencies and carb intolerance?

How did we get so lost as a society that we think REAL FOOD, ones that have been consumed for centuries are all of a sudden the bad guys?

Why are we so afraid of sugar that we are replacing real cane sugar found in nature with zero calorie, sugar free, artificial sweeteners that our bodies don’t recognize as food or energy and are destroying our guts?

We are told dairy is terrible and it’s the root of all our problems, replacing it with nut alternatives that are creating oxidative stress and irritating our guts.

What is all this? Marketing, propaganda, and diet culture at its finest.

I mean at what point will we stop listening to this bullshit and start enjoying food again?

I can guarantee you that a person that has never followed these diet rules and just truly enjoys food (all the foods) is a hell of a lot healthier inside and out than someone thats stressin over eating the rice or the french fry.

Oh and incase you were wondering. White rice is the real MVP. It’s easier to digest and trust me, you will be a much happier human adding it back into your life.

Are You Running on Stress Hormones?

I saw a quote a while ago that I strongly resonated with and I think most of you will too:

“If you listen to your body when it whispers you won’t have to hear it scream”

Society makes women feel like they need to do it all. We are seen as weak if we don’t.

We are expected to work hard and have thriving careers, take care of everything at home, take care of the kids, cook healthy meals, get a hard workout in everyday, you can’t say no or your are seen as a bitch, and on top of that we are expected to look a certain way. The pressure we put on ourselves is wild.

This pressure, these expectations, are what is causing our health to spiral.

We are stressed the F out. We spread ourselves too thin. We are stuck in a constant state of stress and honestly it’s hard to remember to eat and on top of that a nourishing meal. In some cases we even praise ourselves for being able to run on fumes (or stress hormones) all day not eating a crumb all day.

One of the only ways we can come out of this stressed out state and feel better is by nourishing ourselves. Eating every 3-4 hours, eating protein, carb and fat at every meal, getting in a bedtime snack, eat the damn carbs and fruit, focusing on eating superior foods from animal sources, and start taking care of yourself, stop over committing and just say no.

Symptoms are our bodies cries for help and most of the time we are too wound up in “life” that we don’t listen and we end up depleting ourselves even further. Listen to your body she is trying to keep you alive.
