What Doctors Tell You About Hormone Balance Vs What You Should Actually Do

Period problems? PMS? PCOS? Endometriosis? Acne? Weight gain? Mood swings? Fatigue? Sore breasts? Night sweats? Low libido? Anxiety/ depression? Migraines?

Let’s just put you on birth control, spironolactone, and metformin (the basic bitch package for hormonal health).

Not into that? You head to a holistic doc.

You are told to take DIM, Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, eat high fiber, low carb and load up on the cruciferous vegetables. You are told to eliminate dairy, meat and saturated fat, watch the salt and eat more PUFA! Start seed cycling and let’s also start you on a HRT cream from a compound pharmacy, why not, it’s natural and bioidentical, no harm right?

WHAT DA?! 🤯Now we are talking about the alternative health basic bitch package.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, your hormonal issues are not hormonal at all.

Absolutely none of these recommendations gets to the root cause of your hormonal issues.

Seed cycling, nuts and seeds? Talk about a rancid, estrogenic, toxic, shit storm.
DIM and cruciferous vegetables let’s destroy our thyroid and metabolism while we are at it.

Low carb, high fiber? Why are carbs a problem in the first place and fiber? Gut irritation station.

More exercise? Let’s just add to that stress bucket that got you here in the first place.

Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C? Sure let’s just create more mineral imbalances.

HRT? Hormones work in balance with one another and can work against each other.

So what to actually do?

Eat a traditional diet that supports your physiology. This includes eating seasonal – root vegetables and tubers, fruit, honey, grass-fed/ pasture-raised meats (nose to tail), eggs, dairy and wild caught fish.

Address mineral and nutrient imbalances.

You will never heal hormones without addressing digestion and detox. I don’t care if you have zero digestive issues.

Balance your blood sugar, the #1 thing you can do. Eat every 3-4 hours. Combine carb, protein and fat.

You can be doing all of the above but if you hate your life, sleep like shit, have no joy, stressed out, over-exercising or under-eating you simply will not get your hormones in check.

Put in the work girlfriend, it will be worth it!

The Dangers of Soy, Flax, and Plant Estrogens

How many times have you heard that soy + flax are fantastic for your hormones?

I’l never forget the day I walked into the ND office riddled with estrogen symptoms and was told to add more soy and cruciferous vegetables and seed cycle with flax, as well as take DIM supplement. After I had already been on the birth control pill for 12 years. Holistic healthcare can be dangerous.

Here’s the deal. We live is a highly estrogenic world. We are all ridden with estrogen and most of our hormonal problems come back to an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone.

If you were vegan, fed soy milk or formula as a baby, seed cycled for “hormone balance” took birth control pills or bio-identical estrogen, added flax to your smoothies, took DIM supplements, and ate all the plant estrogens this is not to scare you!

You know better you do better. First step. Knock it off.

Next step. Evaluate your estrogen burden.

That includes the phytoestrogens above as well as those found in skincare, makeup, tap water, plastics, cooking utensils, cleaning supplies, etc…

Third step. Eat a metabolically supporting diet that works for YOUR physiology, address mineral imbalances and get your gut in check.

Girlfriend, you are smarter than this.

Stop being fooled into thinking this garbage will balance your hormones. Your body knows best, really truly listen to it. I can guarantee it’s not jumping for joy every time you give it that man made soy milk or vegan burger and that flax seed waste product.

Your breasts don’t lie. Dr. Hobbins spent his career studying the impacts of these such things on breast health using thermographs.

Tis the season for sugar detoxes, low carb diets, whole 30’s, paleo, keto, carnivore, intermittent fasting and everything in between. You’re having a hard time losing weight, you notice carbs don’t make me feel well or you have some symptoms you are trying to fix so hey why not do a reset! Maybe you try low carb, dabble with fasting or go hardcore keto or carnivore. You only want to reset your body and do it for a few months until a few months turns into a year because you try to come off said diet and you are gaining weight like a MOFO because you are more insulin resistant than ever before. Here’s the deal. These diets are not quick fixes and come with consequences. You are only getting temporary relief from a problem that needs to be dealt with. The problem that needed to be dealt with? Your bodies inability to use glucose (sugar) as fuel in the first place due to an under functioning metabolism from mineral deficiencies, stress, under-eating, and under-nourishing your body. Our bodies, our cells prefer to run on glucose and it will do anything it can to make that happen. If you take glucose away this causes your stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline to rise and use its backup system to turn non-carbohydrate sources into glucose, this is a system that should only be used during a famine. Burning fatty acids instead of glucose causes insulin resistance. Sure you may have initial weight loss but that weight loss is actually the shedding of super important minerals like magnesium, sodium and potassium, water and muscle. Muscle requires a lot of fuel and energy. You end up with lowered muscle mass and more fat than you had started with. On top of that your metabolism is destroyed, your hormones suck, your thyroid and adrenals suffer from all the stress and you end up more mineral deficient than you were before, the minerals you needed in the first place that was preventing you from being able to use glucose appropriately. Nourish your body with real food.These diets are destroying you mentally and physically. The next time you want to jump on that low carb bandwagon address what got you there in the first place. Is Your Cell Phone Making You Fat

You wake up and the first thing you do is start scrolling and before you know it time has gone by and your morning routine or workout plans are out the window. Hell, you can’t even go pee mid day without bringing it with you to scroll for those .2 seconds. You cook dinner and scroll. You spend the whole rest of your night scrolling, ditching any plans you had to read, stretch, walk, or be present with family. You get into bed and scroll. And you wake up just to do it all over again. It all comes back to cortisol baby! Not only is social media creating false beliefs that you need to lose weight due to its unrealistic filters and highlight reels creating negative thoughts about your body. These constant thoughts of being unworthy are stressful. But then let’s add some fuel to the already stressed out fire with those EMF’s and constant blue light exposure (that clearly were not created with our physiology in mind) and we have ourselves a wildfire. Cortisol is released when you’re under stress. This sends your body into fight-or-flight mode, temporarily pausing regular bodily functions and slowing your metabolism. While this hormone is essential to survival, it can become harmful in excess amounts. “Laura, I’m doing all the right things but I can’t lose weight.” Says the woman that is up on her cell phone and lap top all hours of the night or can’t get her shit together because her phone is impeding on routines and habits. “I have to be up, it’s the only time I have for myself, is there a supplement I can take to help with the stress hormones?” No. I don’t care if you are wearing 3 pairs of blue blockers and taking stress reducing adaptogens. You are not addressing the problem in the first place. Blue light blockers don’t give you permission. Evaluate do you really need to lose weight or are you running into the comparison trap on social media. I can guarantee its the latter. Take away social media for 30 days, a week, or just unfollow those people that are making you feel less than and see how much your life, health and thoughts around your weight change. Perhaps losing weight has everything to do with false expectations, influence + habits.

The Truth About Plants

I can guarantee if you walk into any health professionals office they will tell you to eat more vegetables, as if that is going to solve all your problems! 🙄

Sure, eating vegetables in place of the standard american diet is going to be better, duh! But is it optimal? No. Potentially harmful? Maybe.

Here’s the deal.

Our soils are not what they used to be. The vegetables you are eating today don’t have near close to the same nutritional value as they did decades ago due to all the chemicals they are sprayed with (even organic), toxic tap water they are being grown in, and the heavy metals they suck up from our soils which displace vital nutrients we need as humans.

Leafy green vegetables have a fiber in the form of cellulose. The human body can not digest cellulose. This hard to break down fiber can cause inflammation, irritation, intestinal damage from increased bowel size, and in turn causes constipation, diarrhea, gas or bloating.

Goitrogens are found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, soy, cauliflower, leafy greens, cabbage, and brussel sprouts. Goitrogens suppress thyroid and metabolic function and are highly estrogenic.

They have protective mechanisms known as anti-nutrients to protect themselves from invaders. Anti- nutrients interfere with how your body absorbs other nutrients.

Yum right? I mean who doesn’t want to load up their plates with toxic, chemical filled, estrogen laden, anti-metabolic, anti-thyroid, malnourished plants that create digestive hell? Me, Me, Me! Seconds please!

Grass eating animals are known as ruminants. They have a different digestive system than us which includes the ruman. This is where cellulose + hard to digest plant matter is broken down. They can digest + assimilate nutrients from plants.

Humans are meat eaters, this is seen through history simply through geography + how our teeth function.

This is not to say to never have plants. Cook them well and know where they are grown.

Animals first, plants later.

You are a grown ass woman who’s body is nutritionally demanding + requires a lot of energy, loading your plate with this toxic, low energy, bird food simply will not give you what you need to thrive.
