Superfoods for Hormone Balance

Girlfriend put down the fancy, EXPENSIVE, “superfood” powders and start eating real food to balance your hormones!

Here are some of my favorite superfoods that help to break down, metabolize and eliminate excess estrogen because girl we have all got a little extra estrogen due to stress and this toxic world we live in. Some symptoms of estrogen dominance include mood swings, irritability, PMS before your period, anxiety, weight loss resistance, migraines and headaches, acne, infertility, sleep probs, insulin resistance, and the list goes on.

Ditch the supplements and powders and start incorporating these powerhouse foods into your diet!

⫸ Mushrooms! Yup, just plain old white button mushrooms will do the trick. These bad boys are aromatase inhibitors, aromatase is the enzyme that converts androgens into estrogens (something we don’t want with excess estrogen already brewing) They are also anti-cancer, especially when it comes to estrogen derived cancers like breast cancer. Alway cooked, never raw! If eaten raw they can actually have pro-cancer effects.

⫸ Raw Carrots contain a fiber that binds to endotoxins and estrogen to help escort it out of the body and they also do a great job at cleaning up the gut to get rid of pathogens and bacteria due to their anti-microbial properties. Raw carrots actually help to improve the progesterone and estrogen ratio and bring down cortisol. Talk about a superfood!

⫸ Beets are one of the best way to support the liver and bile flow. If we have estrogen dominance symptoms we NEED to be supporting liver detoxification and the gut to help eliminate that excess estrogen or else it will just keep recirculating in the body. The liver is responsible for eliminating excess estrogen, as well as other hormone-disrupting compounds from the body. Beets contain a compound called Betaine that helps the body get rid of toxins. One of the ways estrogen is escorted out of the body is through the bile, basically without a healthy liver we can never fully resolve hormone imbalances.

Never forget, Food is medicine ladies! You CAN heal your hormonal imbalances with food. That’s why i’m here. I take a food first approach, always!
