Do you find yourself continuously losing and regaining the same 10-15 pounds? If so, this post is for you.
I have never been what society would call “thin.” I was born with a booty and curves and I too have lost and gained 10-15 pounds multiple times throughout my life. Weight is something I have struggled with for as long as I can remember and on some occasions it seemed as though I could just look at food and put on 5 pounds.
My head spins every damn time I experience weight fluctuations. I go down a rabbit hole trying to figure out where I went wrong (or right). Am I eating too many carbs? Must be all the fat I am eating? Maybe I didn’t drink enough water? I bet it’s because I stopped eating fruit? Not enough cardio? Too much weight lifting? Thyroid? Maybe Adrenal Fatigue? I’m annoyed at myself just thinking about the amount of time and energy I wasted on 10 pounds.
During these bouts of weight gain and weight loss I have learned a few things.
Firstly, nobody gives a shit if you’ve lost or gained weight, especially a measly 10 pounds. And if they do, bye! Those people don’t matter.
I’ve come to realize food is never the problem. The pressure we put on ourselves to look a certain way is. It is natural to lose and gain weight due to lifestyle changes, stress and fluctuating hormones. Hell maybe you’re just enjoying life and eating ALL the things that give you joy. I am here to tell you it is completely okay and normal to gain and lose weight numerous times throughout your life.
In my case, of course when I drank beer and Monster Energy drinks like it was my job (okay it kind of was my job but that’s past the point) I was bound to gain weight, but at least I had fun doing it.
Of course when I went off the birth control pill after 12 years I would gain weight due to hormonal fluctuations.
Of course when I restricted, worked out like crazy and ate the same 10 foods every day I was going to lose weight.
And of course once I balance my hormones and stop stressing about weight I finally reach my ideal weight. The weight I feel best in.
Ask yourself, what will change, what will be so much better when you lose that 10-15 pounds? I can assure you nothing.
Like nature, our bodies go through seasons. You may hate winter, like fall, be indifferent about spring and LOVE summer. Whatever season you may be experiencing, embrace it. Each season has it’s own beauty.
