Guys, I love supplements.
Supplements can really help support our bodies in ways nutrition alone can’t. Don’t get me wrong, I am 100% an advocate for getting all the nutrients we need from food but I understand that sometimes that can be hard and certain minerals are difficult to get in food alone.
I get a lot of questions about supplements.
Mostly people asking what they should or shouldn’t take due to the overwhelming amount of brands and products out there. I have also realized that most people are under the assumption that in order to be healthy, they need to take vitamins – and this is simply not true. You can be a fully functioning, healthy, human being without taking any supplements your entire life.
When I ask those people why they think they should be taking a vitamin or supplement they don’t really have an answer besides ” I don’t know, shouldn’t everyone be?” My answer is always “No.”
From my experience, a lot of people don’t know what they are taking, how much they are taking or even why they are taking them.
There is no actual need to take a supplement or vitamin everyday unless you feel like you need to be supporting something going on in your body. There are some exceptions and I will go into as to why I take certain supplements every day and why I believe everyone could benefit from taking them.
First and foremost:
YOU CAN NOT SUPPLEMENT YOUR WAY OUT OF A BAD DIET.
A supplement will not magically make you lose weight or stop carbs from turning into fat or whatever else you hear people promoting on social media. Supplements will not take place of poor eating or sleeping habits. They are to be added when you are already taking care of your body.
QUALITY IS SO IMPORTANT.
You don’t want to just grab any supplement off the grocery store shelf or the famous Woman’s One A Day. Reason being, if supplements are not sourced properly their can be hidden chemicals and toxins that can do your body more harm than good. A lot of times companies want to save money so not only is their product sourced poorly but they actually add fillers to the supplements and you end up only getting 1/2 or less of the stated quantity in the pill.
I have literally gotten sick from taking supplements of cheap and bad quality.
One of the many reasons I love supplements is because I can confidently say I have healed certain ailments just from taking herbs and supplements rather than taking an antibiotic or steroid prescribed by a doctor. You can read more about this below.
Keep in mind the supplements I take may not be right for you but they are what is working for me right now. I also change them based on the season, my activity level, while traveling and what I am looking to support.
I’d recommend 3 supplements daily and then more if you need to support something going on in your body. Take every day for a month, consistently, and see if you notice a difference. If you don’t, they probably are not doing much and may be wasting money.
Here are my staple daily supplements:
If you get my newsletter you already know how much I rave about Magnesium!
Do you deal with anxiety? Insomnia or sleep issues? Constipation? Digestive discomfort? Painful periods and cramping? Migraines and headaches? Hormone Issues? High Blood Pressure? Poor Bone Health? “Charlie Horses”? If so, you need Magnesium in your life!
Did you know that 90% of Americans are magnesium deficient? Magnesium is known as the relaxation mineral. It is required by our bodies to maintain overall health. Magnesium plays a huge roll in all functions of the body but it is very hard to get enough from food sources and day to day life can leave us depleted. Things like stress, processed foods, sugar, coffee, and alcohol can deplete our bodies of this very important mineral.
I take magnesium every night before bed. I choose Magnesium Glycinate because it is easily absorbable and I actually notice a difference when I take it as opposed to other types of Magnesium.
This is a staple supplement in my diet and something I recommend to pretty much everyone I talk to. It is possibly one of the most important supplements I consume on a daily basis. You can buy the brand I trust here.
I am sure we have all heard about probiotics, so in short, probiotics are live bacteria that are good for you, especially your gut and digestive system. We are all made up of good and bad bacteria and probiotic helps to balance those bacteria. Probiotics are good for overall health but mostly our gut, immune system, allergies and skin conditions.
There are different strains of probiotics. The one in which I have noticed the greatest benefit from taking is Bifidobacteria. This tends to be the best for people that suffer with IBS and those people that were not breast fed as a child. Little tip: Even if you choose to not breast feed, even doing it for a short period of time, a few days even, can provide your child with enough nutrients and probiotics for life.
It is best to switch up your probiotic regularly to get the best variety of bacteria. I have tried numerous different brands and types of probiotics and the two I gravitate towards and find the most beneficial are here and here.
I prefer to get my probiotics from food such as sauerkraut or kombucha. I eat sauerkraut with dinner every night and drink kombucha a few times a week.
I know this is a strange one to put on the list. Salt gets a really bad rep due to typical poor quality and high sodium salts found in processed foods but we also forget how beneficial a good quality REAL SALT is.
Table salt is stripped of minerals and bleached – gross! This is the type of salt found in all packaged and processed foods. Real Salt or Himalayan Salt is untainted by toxins and provides a rich source of over 60 trace minerals.
Real Salt or Himalayan Salts have a slew of health benefits, here are just a few:
- Supports thyroid and adrenals & helps balance hormones
- Creates stomach acid
- Improves hydration
- Reduces muscle cramps
- Balances blood sugar
- Supports weight loss and improves energy
- Balances PH
I put about a teaspoon of salt in my water every morning before I go workout. It gives me a little boost of energy. And if your like me, you drink A LOT of water during the day. Yes, this is a good thing but all that water can actually flush your body of necessary minerals. Adding some salt to your water can help keep you in balance.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. Did you know after the age of 20, a person produces about 1 percent less collagen in the skin each year? As a result, our skin, hair, nails, joints and bones become more fragile and thinner with age. Although this is not something that can be prevented we can at least help support our bodies by giving it a boost of collagen every day! Collagen supplements have been attributed for their ability to stimulate our bodies to produce collagen on its own.
Benefits of taking a collagen supplement:
- Strengthens skin and benefits elasticity & hydration therefore preventing wrinkles
- Improves symptoms of arthritis and joint pain
- Improves bone strength
- Muscle growth
- Can reduce heart related conditions since it provides structure to our arteries preventing them from becoming fragile
- Strengthens hair and nails
- Heals leaky gut syndrome and supports good gut health
Collagen can be found in chicken skin, pork skin, bone marrow and fish, which makes it a difficult one to get in every day from food alone.
Get my favorite brand here. It is tasteless and I add it to my coffee, tea, or smoothie every day. It is also a great replacement to those awful protein powders full of junk ingredients. 2 scoops gives you 20 grams of protein!
You could also make my bone broth recipe here which is also jam-packed with collagen!
Ailments I have cured/ supported my body in healing using supplements:
If you would like more information on any of these ailments and what supplements you could benefit from taking feel free to reach out!
To Support Sleep:
For Concentration and Energy:
When traveling I bump up my Vitamin C dosage. For added stress support I take an adrenal supplement. If my gut feels off from traveling I take L-Glutamine, Licorice Root, and bump up my collagen intake. If I know I am going out to dinner and might eat something my body can’t digest well, I take digestive bitters. I assure you there is a method to this madness and I would love to educate you on supplements that could benefit your life!
All supplements have a purpose and can really support your body in ways you never thought possible. You don’t have to suffer from ailments when I can assure you there is a supplement out there to help support your body and what it is going through.
